THE SWIMWEAR BOUTIQUE COMES HOME

Danna Pomeroy is changing the way women see themselves … one party at a time. Pomeroy’s new business, Fiji Time, brings a swimsuit boutique right to her customers. Be it an invite-only party for a few or a private fitting for one, Pomeroy studies each individual to find the perfect suit for her perfect body.
“The thing that I love is that I get to fit women in swimsuits that look good on their body type,” Pomeroy says. “I just really enjoy helping women feel good about themselves.” Pomeroy can be scheduled for an individual fitting, but getting all the girls together and trying on swimsuits is much more fun.
“So many of us women don’t support each other, and a lot of women that I see have low self-esteem and they are very harsh on themselves,” says Pomeroy. “I’ll see someone who describes themselves over the phone, ‘I have really big thighs.’ I get there and I’m like, ‘You do not have big thighs. You look athletic and that’s OK. You look great.’”
Not only is Pomeroy’s boutique different in the fact that Fiji Time brings the store to you, but Pomeroy is simultaneously changing the way women think about each other. With so many young women competing with each other over their looks, their material things or their fabulous jobs, it’s about time someone brought the XX team back together. Joining forces over sexy swimsuits (and maybe a glass of wine or two) in a no-stress atmosphere like home might be the perfect common ground.
Any woman would agree that shopping for a new swimsuit has never been the most enjoyable experience. Fluorescent lightbulbs directly on top of dressing room mirrors cast shadows in places that make anyone look like they have cottage cheese thighs, and, of course, the one swimsuit that looks halfway decent in the retail store looks like a completely different suit at home.
Now thanks to Fiji Time, women can host swimsuit gatherings much like their mother’s Tupperware parties, just with less clothing. Hosts receive a percentage of the total sales, as do people who refer Pomeroy to new customers. This is the first business of its kind, she says. “One of my manufacturers loved my idea so much that they hired their own rep for their line in San Diego. They said it’s taking off like crazy.”
Carrying high-end brands such as byFumagalli, Cyn & Luca, Vitamin A and Ana Romano, Pomeroy selects swimsuits based on quality and style. According to Pomeroy, there’s a perfect trendy suit for every body. “In the right pattern, almost anything can work,” she says.
